This week, I received a message from a girl named Lauren. She saw a shot that I posted recently from a wedding I did in Gimli (Christine & Gary). Here’s the shot that Lauren saw:
Lauren’s husband proposed to her at that bench, and is the one who carved the initials into it!! I thought that it was pretty cool to hear from Lauren – when I first found the bench, I did kinda wondered who the couple was that marked the bench, and what they were like
Lauren explained a bit of background regarding the story of the carving. She writes “He actually asked me to our grade 12 grad by carving “will you go to grad with me” in a picnic table at Kildonan Park so I guess it was only fitting that he propose in the same manner hehe it was perfect and I would cut that piece of bench out and hang it on my wall if I could“
Lauren – thanks for sharing that story with me – it’s super cute, and I’m glad to know a bit of history about the bench!! I hope to one day have the opportunity to photograph you guys, and maybe take shots of you guys as you make a new carving somewhere
